Born in France in 1651 and considered the founder of Catholic schools, John Baptist de La Salle is the patron saint of teachers and principals. Through his generous spirit and acts, he made education accessible to the young, poor and marginalized. La Salle’s methods were remarkably innovative. He grouped students by ability, got parents involved, and developed teacher training programs. Today, John Baptist de La Salle’s Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools carries on his legacy.
