St. Juan Diego lived in Mexico during the 1500’s. Juan Diego was so devoted to his faith that he walked 15 miles each day to Mexico City to attend daily Mass. One day, as he was walking to Mass, the Blessed Mother appeared to him dressed as an Aztec Princess. Mary told Juan Diego to ask the local bishop to build a church where she appeared to him. When Juan Diego went to the bishop, he was told to ask Mary for a miracle to prove that his story was true. Juan did what he was told, and asked the Blessed Mother for a miracle. Mary told Juan to pick the roses that he would find nearby, and to put them in his tilma or cloak. Juan gathered the flowers and went to the bishop again.
