Divino Niño statue
The devotion to Divino Niño began in Bogota, Colombia, with an Italian priest named Giovanni Rizzo. He was was assigned the mission of raising donations for the construction of a new Church. After many unsuccessful attempts, Father Giovanni stopped in front of a statue of Our Lady Help of Christians and prayed to the Baby Jesus with all his heart. The boy stretched out his arms and said to him, "Take me with you. I want to accompany you, "and his prayers were answered.
From that day on, Father Giovanni became a great apostle of the Most Holy Child.
In 1935 he moved to a very poor area in south of Bogota and in a store, he bought a statue of the Holy Child. The original statue is made of wood and depicts the baby Jesus in a pink tunic with his arms opened wide. The words “Yo reinare”, or “I will reign”, can be found under it. The statue is claimed to have miraculous powers.
