St. Albert the Great was a German Dominican who lived in the 13th century. He was a brilliant scholar, who taught theology at the Universities of Paris and Cologne. He was also a respected philosopher and ground-breaking natural scientist, earning the name Albertus Magnus, or Albert the Great, for his amazing mind. Albert taught and was friends with St. Thomas Aquinas, and has been named a Doctor of the Church.
