Born of humble origins to Polish parents who emigrated to Italy, Pope St. Pius X strived  “to renew all things in Christ.” He stood against the relativism of his day; established the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD); and encouraged love for the Eucharist by lowering the age for First Communion. After an earthquake in 1910, Pius X famously opened the Vatican doors to victims, an unsurprising gesture from the pope who routinely invited guests to dine with him at the Apostolic Palace!
Patron saint of:
  • earthquake relief
  • first communion
  • natural disasters
