Jacinta Marto was the youngest of the three children to whom Mary appeared in Fatima, Portugal in 1916. Just six years old, she was cheerful, energetic, and somewhat willful, but deeply pious. After Mary showed the children a vision of eternal life without God, she entered wholeheartedly into making reparation for sins through prayer, fasting, and penance. She fell ill with influenza and then tuberculosis, but suffered confidently until her death in 1920.
